Should You Pull for Blade?

Main DPS

Blade is a Wind DPS who burns his own HP to fight. Since version 3.4 every part of his kit scales off Max HP, he heals himself well, and he barely touches your Skill Points. If you need an easy AoE damage dealer, Blade is well worth a look.

He suits players who want a simple AoE DPS that doesn't fight teammates for Skill Points. Blade also works as a Sub-DPS next to characters who drain allies' HP, such as Castorice.

Memory of Chaos Very strong Forest of Swords and his Ultimate hit the main target plus adjacent enemies, his Follow-up ATK sweeps the whole field, and he gets a lot out of heavy investment.
Pure Fiction Strong His Follow-up ATK hits every enemy, while Forest of Swords and his Ultimate only splash onto adjacent targets.
Apocalyptic Shadow Very strong Bring Ruan Mei with him if you can, since she makes his Toughness damage much better.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Great and consistent DPS in every kind of content
  • Excellent self-healing
  • Very reliable at drawing attacks and taking hits
  • Damage that scales entirely off HP
  • Extremely Skill Point positive
  • Versatile as both a main DPS and a sub-DPS
  • Extremely flexible team building

Cons

  • Benefits enormously from heavy investment
  • His aggro pull is not a full Taunt, so allies still eat hits sometimes

Best Blade Build Guide

Best Blade Build

Blade now scales entirely off Max HP and no longer uses ATK at all. Stack HP%, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG and you are on the right track.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 The Unreachable Side The Unreachable Side Best
His signature and the strongest option. It gives CRIT Rate and HP%, and raises his DMG when he gets attacked or consumes his own HP, which is exactly how Blade plays.
  • 2 Flame of Blood, Blaze My Path Flame of Blood, Blaze My Path Great
Mydei's signature has the highest base HP (1375) and also raises Max HP. Every time Blade uses his Skill or Ultimate he gets extra Charge, so his Follow-up ATK comes out more often. With 8334 HP or more in combat, his Ultimate gets up to a 60% DMG boost. It does better against many enemies.
  • 3 Dance at Sunset Dance at Sunset Great
A good 5-star substitute. It greatly raises the chance that enemies target Blade, so he fires off more Follow-up ATKs, and it adds CRIT DMG and Follow-up ATK DMG on top.
  • 4 A Secret Vow A Secret Vow Good
Blade's best 4-star Light Cone at S5. The more often its secondary DMG bonus is active during a fight, the better it performs.
  • 5 Ninja Record: Sound Hunt Ninja Record: Sound Hunt Good
An event Light Cone that is easier to get. Its HP% and CRIT DMG both help Blade. Aim for S5.

Best Relics

1
The best set. Blade triggers the 4-piece effect on his own, and he gets extra HP% plus a large amount of CRIT Rate.
2
If you haven't farmed 4 good Longevous Disciple pieces yet, run this 2 + 2 in the meantime.
3
If you can't put together a 4-piece set with decent stats, mix any two 2-piece bonuses from Longevous Disciple, Eagle of Twilight Line and Wavestrider Captain, and just use whichever pieces have the better stats.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The top pick. It gives plenty of HP% and CRIT DMG, which boosts every hit Blade makes. The CRIT DMG part needs 5000 Max HP, and Blade reaches that very easily.
2
The second choice. It only boosts his Ultimate and Follow-up ATK, so it fits fights with many enemies. The more Eidolons Blade has, the further it pulls ahead of Rutilant Arena.
3
Usable if you don't have the two sets above. It is decent at E0 thanks to CRIT Rate and a Basic ATK DMG boost, but it loses value as Blade unlocks more Eidolons.

Main Stats

  • BodyCRIT DMG or CRIT Rate
  • FeetSPD or HP%
  • Planar SphereWind DMG Boost or HP%
  • Link RopeHP%

Substats

  • 1CRIT Rate
  • 2CRIT DMG
  • 3HP%
  • 4SPD (up to the breakpoint you need)

Body: CRIT DMG first, CRIT Rate also works. Feet: SPD first, with HP% close behind. Planar Sphere: Wind DMG Boost first, HP% as the backup. Link Rope: always HP%.

CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG matter equally, and HP% is very useful too because Blade scales off HP. SPD depends on your team. If you want Blade faster than the teammate who advances his turn, get SPD first until you hit that breakpoint. If you leave him at base SPD and let Sunday or Bronya advance his turn, put everything into CRIT and HP% instead.

Stat Targets

  • HPabout 7000 or more
  • CRIT Rate70% to 80% out of combat is enough because Longevous Disciple covers the rest, or 80% to 100% if you aim higher
  • CRIT DMG150% to 180% or more
  • DEF800 to 900 or more
  • SPDBase SPD, or 135, or 1 SPD faster than your turn advancer

Skill Priority

Basic ATK > Talent = Skill > Ultimate

His enhanced Basic ATK, Forest of Swords, is his main source of damage, so level it first. The Talent sets the damage of the Follow-up ATK he fires very often. The Skill raises the damage of every hit while he is in Hellscape. The Ultimate comes last.

Trace Priority

Cyclone of Destruction > Neverending Deaths > Vita Infinita

Cyclone of Destruction makes his Talent's Follow-up ATK deal 20% more DMG and regenerate an extra 15 Energy. Neverending Deaths raises the HP he restores from healing by 20% and converts 25% of the healed amount into his Ultimate's tally of HP lost. Vita Infinita keeps half of that tally after he uses his Ultimate instead of wiping it. All three are very important, so unlock them early.

Eidolon Priority

E2 is the best value

E1 adds a lot of damage against the main target of Forest of Swords and his Ultimate. E2 gives 15% CRIT Rate while he is in Hellscape, roughly half a main stat or 5 substats, and it is a sensible place to stop if you only want to spend a little on Eidolons. E4 raises his Max HP. E6 cuts the Charge stacks he needs down to 4 and raises his Follow-up ATK damage.

Best Blade Teams

Best Team

Replace Sunday with: Bronya, Sparkle Replace Tribbie with: Cipher, Ruan Mei, Silver Wolf, Pela Replace Hyacine with: Luocha, Lynx, Bailu, Natasha

Every buff goes to Blade so he can carry. Sunday buffs him with his Skill and Ultimate and also gives him Energy, so Blade gets his Ultimate out more often. Tribbie gives Blade All-Type RES PEN and adds extra damage. Hyacine raises the whole team's Max HP, which is exactly what Blade wants. Without Hyacine, Lynx is the 4-star option, and her Skill also makes Blade more likely to get hit.

Blade as Sub-DPS

Replace Castorice with: Jingliu, Jade Replace Tribbie with: Ruan Mei, Bronya, Robin Replace Gallagher with: Huohuo, Luocha, Natasha

Next to a DPS who drains his HP, Blade gets even more Follow-up ATKs. Castorice needs to consume the party's HP for her Ultimate, so Blade burning his own HP suits her very well. Jingliu consumes Blade's HP during her enhanced state, and Jade can use her Skill on Blade to drain his HP. If you use Bronya in this team, she should be at least E1 for smoother rotations.

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

This team keeps Blade alive and buffs him. The Remembrance Trailblazer raises Blade's damage with True DMG and CRIT DMG. Lynx heals and makes Blade more likely to be targeted by enemies, so he uses his Follow-up ATK more often.

Best Teammates for Blade

Hyacine
Hyacine

Blade's go-to healer. Her big HP% buff multiplies Blade's damage more than any other sustain. Her signature Light Cone keeps damaging Blade, which gives him extra Charge stacks.

Sunday
Sunday

The best turn advance support, with strong buffs and Energy that lets Blade use his Ultimate more often.

Bronya
Bronya

An easier-to-get replacement for Sunday who gives turn advance and DMG buffs. Some of her buffs scale on ATK%, though, so Blade can't use all of them.

Tribbie
Tribbie

Damage amplification that is up almost all the time, and better against many enemies.

Cipher
Cipher

Also amplifies Blade's damage very consistently, and is better against a single target.

Ruan Mei
Ruan Mei

A modest damage boost, but she makes his Toughness damage much better, which helps a lot in Apocalyptic Shadow.

Silver Wolf
Silver Wolf

Brings heavy DEF reduction and RES PEN, and can implant a Wind Weakness so Blade can fight enemies that aren't weak to Wind.

Lynx
Lynx

A 4-star healer whose Skill makes Blade more likely to get hit, so his Follow-up ATK comes out sooner.

Castorice
Castorice

She needs to consume the party's HP for her Ultimate and Blade wants to lose HP, so the two work well together when Blade plays Sub-DPS.

Luocha
Luocha

Steady healing, even off-turn, for both Blade and the other DPS.

How to Play Blade

Enter Hellscape, Then Use Forest of Swords

His Skill Hellscape consumes 30% of his Max HP and puts Blade into an enhanced state for 3 turns. During it, his Basic ATK becomes Forest of Swords, which hits the main target and adjacent enemies, and his DMG dealt goes up. Using the Skill does not end his turn, so you can follow up with Forest of Swords right away in the same turn. Forest of Swords cannot regenerate Skill Points, but Blade still uses very few of them, which leaves plenty for your teammates.

Get Hit to Trigger His Follow-up ATK

Every time Blade takes DMG or consumes his own HP, he gains 1 stack of Charge (at most 1 stack per enemy attack). At 5 stacks he immediately launches a Follow-up ATK on all enemies and restores 25% of his Max HP. In Hellscape, enemies target him far more often, so his Charge stacks build up fast. Cyclone of Destruction also makes each Follow-up ATK regenerate an extra 15 Energy.

His Ultimate Sets HP to Exactly 50%

His Ultimate Death Sentence sets Blade's current HP to 50% of his Max HP. If his HP is low, it heals him up. If his HP is high, it drains him down, which gives him extra Charge and adds to the tally of HP lost right before the hit (the tally is capped at 90% of his Max HP). That makes the Ultimate both a big damage move and an emergency button when Blade is about to go down. Thanks to Vita Infinita and Neverending Deaths, the tally is almost always full, so his Ultimate is nearly always at full power.

Don't Pair Him With Shielders

His Talent needs Blade to get hit or lose HP to build Charge. Shields block that damage, so he builds Charge more slowly. Avoid putting Preservation characters like Gepard or March 7th in his team.

Quick Tips

  • Start fights with his Technique Karma Wind: Blade consumes 20% of his Max HP and deals Wind DMG to all enemies right at the start of battle.
  • A Secret Vow and Ninja Record: Sound Hunt are at their best at S5, so collect all copies if you plan to use one long term.
  • With Sunday or Bronya at 160 SPD advancing his turn, Blade can stay at base SPD, or you can make him faster than them for extra turns per cycle.
  • At E0, Rutilant Arena is still fine, but once Blade has more Eidolons switch to Inert Salsotto.
  • Don't build ATK on Blade, because all of his damage now scales only off Max HP.

Blade FAQ

Is Blade worth pulling?
Yes, if you need an AoE damage dealer. Blade is easy to play, hits several enemies at once, heals himself and uses very few Skill Points.
Should Blade use ATK or HP?
HP. Since version 3.4 all of Blade's abilities deal damage based on Max HP, so go for HP% on the Link Rope and HP% plus CRIT on substats.
What Light Cone should Blade use without his signature?
Flame of Blood, Blaze My Path and Dance at Sunset are two good 5-star replacements. For 4-stars, use A Secret Vow or Ninja Record: Sound Hunt at S5.
Which Eidolon should you stop at?
E2 is a sensible stopping point. It gives 15% CRIT Rate while he is in Hellscape, so you don't have to chase as much CRIT Rate on relics.
Can Blade play Sub-DPS?
Yes. Blade works well next to DPS characters who drain his HP, such as Castorice, Jingliu or Jade, because the more HP he loses, the more Follow-up ATKs he fires.
