Servant of Death

“Welcome to Okhema. I am Castorice. Apologies, it is my habit to keep my distance from others… I can get closer if you wish, however.”

Should You Pull for Castorice?

Main DPS

Castorice is a Remembrance DPS who scales with HP. She does not use Energy. Instead she builds up Newbud from the HP your whole team loses, then uses her Ultimate to summon Netherwing and sweep the field with AoE damage. Her Skill costs no Skill Points. If you have no Quantum DPS yet, or no DPS released from Version 3.0 onward, Castorice is very much worth pulling.

Building a team for her is fairly easy: Trailblazer (Remembrance) and Gallagher are enough to get started. The catch is that she wants high stats on herself and on her teammates, and she does not work at all with shield-based sustains, so think twice if shielders are the only sustain units you have.

Memory of Chaos Outstanding Netherwing deals AoE damage and takes hits for your team, and the harder enemies hit, the faster Newbud fills up.
Pure Fiction Outstanding Breath Scorches the Shadow hits every enemy and can be used several times in a row in a single turn.
Apocalyptic Shadow Outstanding Her attacks deal heavy Toughness damage, and pairing her with Ruan Mei makes her an even better fit for this Break-focused mode.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Flexible AoE damage with hits that bounce between several targets
  • Very strong Toughness reduction through her attacks
  • Her huge HP pool makes her almost impossible to knock out
  • The more aggressive the enemies are, the stronger she gets
  • Netherwing shields allies from being knocked out and heals when it ends
  • Completely Skill Point neutral, neither spending nor generating them
  • Netherwing provides RES PEN for every element
  • She can open a fight with Netherwing straight away
  • A unique Energy mechanic lets her use her Ultimate over and over

Cons

  • Free Light Cone options are rather poor
  • Demands high stat investment both on herself and on the whole team
  • Her passive revive depends heavily on conditions
  • Does not work at all with shield-based sustain units

Best Castorice Build Guide

Best Castorice Build

Every hit from Castorice and Netherwing scales off her Max HP. Stack HP, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, and skip SPD.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 Make Farewells More Beautiful Make Farewells More Beautiful Best
Her signature Light Cone, and well ahead of everything else because the Remembrance Path has very few Light Cones that suit her. It gives a big Max HP boost, so there is more HP to drain, lets both Castorice and Netherwing ignore 30% of enemy DEF, and advances Castorice's action when Netherwing disappears.
  • 2 To Evernight's Stars To Evernight's Stars Great
Raises Castorice's HP and lets every memosprite on the team ignore enemy DEF. Its Energy restoration does almost nothing for her.
  • 3 The Flower Remembers The Flower Remembers Great
The best 4-star option, only available from the Battle Pass. It gives CRIT DMG that Netherwing inherits, plus an extra CRIT DMG bonus for Netherwing itself. Strong at Superimposition 5.
  • 4 Sweat Now, Cry Less Sweat Now, Cry Less Great
Also a Battle Pass Light Cone. It gives CRIT Rate and boosts DMG when Netherwing attacks. The problem is that she already gets a lot of CRIT Rate from her Traces, relics and team buffs, so it is easy to go over 100% and waste part of it.
  • 5 Time Waits for No One Time Waits for No One Stopgap
The Remembrance Path has no easy-to-get DPS Light Cone, so equipping one from another Path just for its high base HP is a decent plan. The Light Cone's effect will not activate. Any Light Cone with 1376, 1270 or 1164 base HP works.

Best Relics

1
The best set and the first one to farm. It boosts her Quantum DMG and raises the CRIT Rate of both Castorice and Netherwing. She is fine playing slow, and the 40% SPD from her Trace only applies in combat, so it does not turn off the 4-piece effect.
2
The second choice. It gives extra HP and raises her CRIT Rate whenever she loses HP, and her Skill drains HP every time.
3
If you cannot put together 4 pieces with good stats yet, mix 2 + 2 from Poet of Mourning Collapse, Scholar Lost in Erudition, Longevous Disciple and Genius of Brilliant Stars. Note that the 4-piece effect of Genius of Brilliant Stars does not apply to Netherwing.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The top pick. It boosts the CRIT DMG of both Castorice and Netherwing, and its condition is easy to meet because she has so much HP. Most other sets either do not affect Netherwing or have the wrong stats.
2
Boosts DMG when there are more than 4 allies on the field (memosprites included), which means two or more other Remembrance characters on the team. It is weaker because she already has plenty of DMG bonuses, and with Evernight the memosprites are not always on the field.
3
Raises Castorice's CRIT DMG while Netherwing is on the field. However, that extra CRIT DMG does not carry over to Netherwing.

Main Stats

  • BodyCRIT DMG or HP%
  • FeetHP%
  • Planar SphereHP% or Quantum DMG Boost
  • Link RopeHP%

Substats

  • 1CRIT Rate
  • 2CRIT DMG
  • 3HP%
  • 4HP

Poet of Mourning Collapse already gives a lot of CRIT Rate, so go for a CRIT DMG body, with HP% as the backup. Do not take SPD feet, use HP%. For the Planar Sphere, HP% comes first and Quantum DMG Boost second. Link Rope is HP%.

CRIT Rate is always worth having. CRIT DMG and HP% come right after and are both good, while flat HP is weaker. Avoid SPD so the Poet set stays fully active, and if you do have some, keep your SPD under 95.

Stat Targets

  • HP7000 or more
  • CRIT Rate80% to 100% in combat, Poet set included
  • CRIT DMG150% is enough to start, 200% to 220% or more if you invest heavily
  • DEF700 or more
  • SPDbase SPD, or under 95

Skill Priority

Memosprite Skill = Memosprite Talent > Ultimate = Talent > Skill > Basic ATK

Netherwing uses its Memosprite Skill over and over to deal damage, so level that first. The Memosprite Talent raises the DMG and healing of Wings Sweep the Ruins. Her Ultimate increases the All-Type RES reduction on enemies, and her Talent raises the DMG bonus she and Netherwing get when allies lose HP. Level her Skill early as well, since Castorice uses it for most of the fight. Basic ATK can be skipped.

Trace Priority

Contained Dark Tide > Where the West Wind Dwells > Inverted Torch

Contained Dark Tide turns healing into Newbud, or into Netherwing's HP while it is on the field, up to 12% of max Newbud per ally. Where the West Wind Dwells gives each use of Breath Scorches the Shadow 30% more DMG, stacking up to 6 times. Inverted Torch raises her SPD by 40% while her HP is at 50% or more. All three matter a lot, so unlock them all early.

Eidolon Priority

E2 is the best value

E1 makes Netherwing's attacks and her Enhanced Skill deal 120% of their normal DMG when the enemy is at 80% HP or lower, and 140% at 50% or lower. E2 gives 2 stacks of Ardent Will, which cover the HP Netherwing would spend on Breath Scorches the Shadow and advance Castorice's action, and her next Enhanced Skill gives her Newbud equal to 30% of the max. E4 only increases the healing your team receives, so you do not need it with a good healer. E6 adds 20% Quantum RES PEN, lets Netherwing reduce Toughness regardless of Weakness Type, and adds 3 more Bounces to Wings Sweep the Ruins.

Best Castorice Teams

Best Team

Replace Cyrene with: Robin • Summeretto, Tribbie, Trailblazer (Remembrance) Replace Hyacine with: Luocha, Gallagher, Lingsha

Evernight and Cyrene are the two teammates that add the most to Castorice's damage. Evernight gives Netherwing a huge CRIT DMG boost, keeps detonating her own memosprite and drains her own HP, so Newbud fills up very fast. Cyrene lets Castorice overcharge her Ultimate up to 200%, which makes Wings Sweep the Ruins much stronger against 2 or fewer targets. Hyacine heals the whole team every turn and raises everyone's Max HP, exactly what Castorice needs.

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

Replace Lynx with: Gallagher

Besides Castorice, this team is just the Trailblazer and two 4-stars. Trailblazer (Remembrance) should be at least E1 and gives Castorice CRIT DMG, True DMG and action advance. Pela uses her Ultimate to lower the DEF of all enemies, and Lynx uses her Skill to raise Castorice's Max HP.

Double HP-Drain DPS Team

Replace Mydei with: Blade, Jingliu, Arlan Replace Tribbie with: Sunday, Trailblazer (Remembrance), Ruan Mei Replace Gallagher with: Luocha, Lingsha, Bailu

Pair Castorice with a second DPS who also spends their own HP. Mydei drains his own HP and takes more DMG than usual since he has 0 DEF, so he feeds Castorice a steady stream of Newbud. In return, Castorice's team-wide HP drain helps Mydei charge his big attacks, and Netherwing lowers enemy All-Type RES and boosts the whole team's DMG. Gallagher heals through his debuff on enemies, and with Tribbie launching frequent AoE attacks, that healing produces even more Newbud.

Team When Evernight and Cyrene Are Busy

Mortenax Blade is not Castorice's best support, but he fills in when her best supports are already used on another team. His HP drain helps charge her Ultimate, and he works very well with Tribbie and Hyacine. Tribbie brings RES PEN and makes enemies take more DMG, the kind of rare buff Castorice is short on.

Best Teammates for Castorice

Hyacine
Hyacine

Her most important support. Hyacine heals automatically after the team loses HP and easily reaches 200 SPD or more, so she heals everyone constantly and Newbud fills up very fast. Her Ultimate also raises the whole team's HP, which pushes Castorice's damage up too.

Evernight
Evernight

A supportive sub-DPS that fits her perfectly. Evernight gives Netherwing over 100% CRIT DMG and makes enemies take 30% more DMG from the whole team. She also keeps detonating her memosprite and drains her own HP, which feeds Castorice a lot of Newbud.

Cyrene
Cyrene

Cyrene's memosprite mirrors her HP changes, which generates extra Newbud. She lets Castorice overcharge her Ultimate up to 200%, and the overflow makes each Bounce of Wings Sweep the Ruins much stronger against 2 or fewer targets.

Tribbie
Tribbie

Gives RES PEN and makes enemies take more DMG, exactly the buffs Castorice is missing since she already has plenty of DMG% and CRIT DMG. These buffs also help Hyacine and Evernight hit harder.

Robin • Summeretto
Robin • Summeretto

Robin • Summeretto adds units that stay on the field the whole time, so AoE healing and AoE damage have more targets and Castorice builds Newbud faster. She also boosts Castorice's CRIT DMG and lets her ignore enemy DEF.

Trailblazer (Remembrance)
Trailblazer (Remembrance)

The Trailblazer's memosprite gives Castorice one more target to drain HP from. When its support is on Castorice, Netherwing gets it too, so both deal an extra 36% True DMG. The Trailblazer also gives the team 10% CRIT Rate and a good amount of CRIT DMG.

Sunday
Sunday

A good fit since his kit revolves around summons, but Netherwing does not pick up Skill and Ultimate buffs that Sunday applied earlier, and his Energy refund does nothing for Castorice.

Mortenax Blade
Mortenax Blade

A stand-in when her best supports are busy on another team. His HP drain helps charge her Ultimate, and he works well with Tribbie and Hyacine.

Mydei
Mydei

A double DPS pair that helps both sides. Castorice's team-wide HP drain charges Mydei's big attacks, while Mydei drains his own HP and takes a lot of damage, which feeds Castorice Newbud.

Gallagher
Gallagher

A 4-star healer, much weaker than Hyacine. His debuff heals every time an enemy is attacked, which generates lots of Newbud, but in Pure Fiction or against frail enemies the debuff is easily lost.

How to Play Castorice

Building Newbud From Lost HP

Castorice has no Energy. Every point of HP your team loses gives her 1 point of Newbud, and once it is full she can use her Ultimate. Max Newbud depends on the levels of the characters on the field, and at max Equilibrium Level it comes to 34000. Her Skill, Silence, Wraithfly's Caress, drains 30% of the current HP of every ally, herself included, and costs no Skill Points. Healing your allies receive also turns into Newbud thanks to the Contained Dark Tide Trace. That is why you need a healer who keeps healing, because a team that is not being healed has no HP left to drain.

Summoning Netherwing and Her Enhanced Skill

Her Ultimate summons Netherwing with 165 SPD and advances its action by 100%, while also creating the Territory Lost Netherland, which lowers All-Type RES for all enemies. Netherwing also gives the whole team 10% more DMG for 3 turns when it arrives. It stays for 3 turns or until its HP runs out. During that time her Skill becomes Boneclaw, Doomdrake's Embrace: it drains 40% of the current HP of every ally except Netherwing, and Castorice and Netherwing launch a Joint ATK on all enemies. HP your allies lose during this time becomes Netherwing's HP instead of Newbud.

Choosing How Hard Netherwing Hits

On its turn, Netherwing picks between two attacks. Claw Splits the Veil hits all enemies and ends the turn, saving its HP. Breath Scorches the Shadow spends 25% of Netherwing's Max HP to hit all enemies, can be used again and again in the same turn, and its DMG multiplier goes up on the second and third use, then stays there until Netherwing leaves. When Netherwing is at 25% HP or lower, using it once more drops it to 1 HP and triggers Wings Sweep the Ruins: 6 Bounces of Quantum DMG plus healing for the whole team. This attack also fires on its own when Netherwing disappears.

Netherwing Protects Allies, Technique Opens the Fight

While Netherwing is on the field, allies who take damage or lose HP can only drop to 1 HP, and Netherwing takes the rest, but it loses 500% of that amount, so do not lean on this too much. Her Technique puts Castorice in the Netherveil state for 20 seconds. Attacking an enemy in this state summons Netherwing right at the start of the fight with HP equal to 50% of max Newbud, and she also gains Newbud equal to 30% of the max before Netherwing is summoned. The trade-off is that the whole team except Netherwing loses 40% of their current HP when the battle starts.

Quick Tips

  • Do not use a shielder as Castorice's sustain, pick a direct healer like Hyacine, Gallagher or Luocha instead.
  • Do not put SPD on her relics, so Poet of Mourning Collapse always keeps its full effect.
  • If you run Sunday, hold his Ultimate until Netherwing is on the field, and wait until Netherwing has received Sunday's Skill buff before detonating it.
  • With Cyrene against many enemies, do not overcharge the Ultimate, since most of the damage then comes from Breath Scorches the Shadow, which gets nothing from the extra Newbud.
  • With Robin • Summeretto, use her Ultimate on Hyacine for the Energy Regeneration. It does not have to go on Castorice.

Playstyle overview

Castorice is a damage dealer who fights by summoning the memosprite “Netherwing: Pollux” and battling alongside it. “Netherwing” consumes its own HP to deal damage to enemies, and the more HP it consumes, the higher the damage. In combat, “Netherwing” can also take damage in place of an ally who is in danger.

Castorice FAQ

Is Castorice worth pulling?
Yes, especially if you have no Quantum DPS or no DPS released from Version 3.0 onward. Her unique revive passive is also a nice bonus for your account.
What Light Cone should Castorice use without her signature?
To Evernight's Stars is the 5-star option. The best 4-star is The Flower Remembers, followed by Sweat Now, Cry Less, and both only come from the Battle Pass. If you have neither of those Battle Pass Light Cones, her signature is close to a must. In the meantime, use a high base HP Light Cone like Time Waits for No One or Flames Afar, or The Story's Next Page at Superimposition 5 for extra Max HP. Victory In a Blink loses even to off-Path high HP Light Cones.
Can Castorice use a shielder?
No. She needs allies to lose HP and get healed back to build Newbud, so a team with a shielder as its sustain barely works. Use a healer such as Hyacine, Gallagher or Luocha.
How does Castorice's revive passive work?
You get it just by owning Castorice, even when she is not on the team. When an ally takes a killing blow, they are not downed right away and can still act normally. If their HP goes up or they gain a Shield before their next turn, they are saved, otherwise they go down. It only triggers once per battle, and it does not replace a healer.
Which Eidolon should I stop at?
E2 is the best value: Ardent Will covers the HP Netherwing would spend and advances Castorice's action, her next Enhanced Skill gives extra Newbud, and it works well with E1. E6 is also very strong thanks to Quantum RES PEN and ignoring Weakness Types. You do not need E4 if you have a good healer.
