Trailblazer (Destruction)

Should You Pull for Trailblazer (Destruction)?

Main DPS

Trailblazer (Destruction) is the very first character you get in the game, a flexible Physical damage dealer in the early game. The further you go, the more their damage falls behind, because their kit has very little to buff themselves with. There is nothing to pull here since the Trailblazer is free, but don't sink too many resources into them either.

A good fit for new players who need a damage dealer they can use right away. If you already have another Physical damage dealer or have unlocked Trailblazer (Harmony), save your materials for them instead.

Memory of Chaos Weak Their Skill does pretty low single-target damage and can't keep up with the tanky enemies of the late game.
Pure Fiction Weak Hitting several enemies at once is their strong point, but their damage still falls well behind other damage dealers in the late game.
Apocalyptic Shadow Weak Later enemies have much bigger Toughness bars, so it gets hard to inflict Weakness Break and turn on the ATK boost from their Talent.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • A flexible damage dealer in the early game
  • Over time you will receive all of their Eidolons
  • Out-of-combat healing
  • Still decent in AoE even later on

Cons

  • Their damage falls behind noticeably after the early game
  • Their Talent needs time to ramp up
  • Very few meaningful buffs in the kit
  • They try to do too much and end up mediocre at everything
  • The other Trailblazer versions offer far more value and staying power

Best Trailblazer (Destruction) Build Guide

Best Trailblazer (Destruction) Build

This is the usual damage dealer build, built around ATK, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG. The Trailblazer does well against multiple targets, so go for gear that boosts Skill and Ultimate DMG.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 On the Fall of an Aeon On the Fall of an Aeon Best
The best Light Cone. It raises ATK and boosts DMG whenever the Trailblazer inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, which fits nicely with a Talent that also runs on breaking enemies.
  • 2 Something Irreplaceable Something Irreplaceable Great
A very solid 5-star option. It raises ATK, boosts DMG after the Trailblazer defeats an enemy or gets hit, and adds some extra healing on top.
  • 3 Under the Blue Sky Under the Blue Sky Great
A strong 4-star pick. It raises ATK and gives extra CRIT Rate when the Trailblazer defeats an enemy.
  • 4 A Secret Vow A Secret Vow Good
A 4-star Light Cone that comes right after On the Fall of an Aeon for damage, so it is worth using if you already have it.
  • 5 The Moles Welcome You The Moles Welcome You Good
Every Basic ATK, Skill or Ultimate adds a stacking ATK buff, which raises the Trailblazer's overall damage.

Best Relics

1
The best set. It gives CRIT Rate and boosts Skill and Ultimate DMG, which are exactly the Trailblazer's two main damage sources.
2
The second choice, giving Physical DMG Boost and ATK.
3
If you can't put together 4 pieces of one set with good stats yet, mix 2 + 2 for now. You can also use 2-piece bonuses from Musketeer of Wild Wheat, Prisoner in Deep Confinement or The Wind-Soaring Valorous.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The top pick. It gives extra CRIT Rate and boosts Skill DMG, but keep the Trailblazer at 70% CRIT Rate or more so the effect turns on.
2
Almost as good as Rutilant Arena, but only use it if your build reaches 135 SPD.
3
Gives a big ATK boost, which pulls the Trailblazer's overall damage up with it.

Main Stats

  • BodyCRIT Rate or CRIT DMG
  • FeetSPD or ATK%
  • Planar SpherePhysical DMG Boost or ATK%
  • Link RopeATK%

Substats

  • 1CRIT Rate
  • 2CRIT DMG
  • 3SPD (if you are aiming for a breakpoint)
  • 4ATK%

CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on the Body both work. SPD or ATK% on the Feet both work too. Go for Physical DMG Boost on the Planar Sphere first, with ATK% only as a backup. Use ATK% on the Link Rope.

Try to keep about 2% CRIT DMG for every 1% CRIT Rate. If you play the Trailblazer as a breaker, add Break Effect to the list.

Stat Targets

  • CRIT Rate70% or more
  • CRIT DMG120% or more
  • SPDbase SPD, or around 134-135 and up

Skill Priority

Ultimate = Skill > Talent > Basic ATK

The Ultimate is their biggest source of damage, and the Skill is what you use all fight long to hit groups and chip Toughness, so level either one first. The Talent raises ATK after inflicting Weakness Break, so it comes next. Basic ATK is mostly for getting Skill Points back, so leave it for last.

Trace Priority

Fighting Will > Ready for Battle > Tenacity

Fighting Will adds 25% DMG against the main target of the Skill and of the Ultimate's Blowout: RIP Home Run, which makes it the most valuable upgrade. Ready for Battle gives 15 Energy at the start of battle, and Tenacity adds DEF for each Talent stack.

Eidolon Priority

Eidolons come for free over time, E4 is the one to look forward to

You will get every Eidolon without doing anything extra. E4 A Destructing Glance gives 25% CRIT Rate when attacking an enemy with Weakness Break, no matter what that enemy is weak to. E1 A Falling Star regenerates 10 extra Energy when the Ultimate defeats an enemy, which suits fights with lots of enemies. E2 An Unwilling Host heals a bit of HP when attacking enemies with Physical Weakness, and E6 A Trailblazing Will lets the Talent trigger on defeating an enemy too.

Best Trailblazer (Destruction) Teams

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

Asta raises the Trailblazer's ATK so they deal more damage. March 7th handles Shields and Natasha handles healing, keeping the whole team alive. Everyone here is easy to get, so it is a great team for new players.

AoE Hypercarry Team

Replace Bronya with: Asta, Pela, Welt Replace Tingyun with: Asta, Pela, Welt

Give the Trailblazer all your Skill Points and every offensive buff so they can act several times in a row and hit hard before the enemies get to act. Use Weakness Break to raise their ATK. The last slot is any healer, and if you don't need one, swap in a Preservation character. You can also put a Preservation character in place of Bronya or Tingyun to survive better, at the cost of damage. This team is better against groups of enemies than against a single target.

Best Teammates for Trailblazer (Destruction)

Asta
Asta

Raises the Trailblazer's ATK, and her Ultimate speeds up the whole team, so you get extra actions in before the enemy moves.

Bronya
Bronya

The core teammate of the hypercarry team, helping the Trailblazer act again and again.

Tingyun
Tingyun

Works with Bronya to stack offensive buffs on the Trailblazer in the AoE team.

Pela
Pela

Lowers enemy DEF and strips their buffs, so the Trailblazer deals more damage.

Welt
Welt

Lowers enemy SPD and boosts the Trailblazer's Ultimate DMG, and his A6 raises damage to Weakness Broken enemies. Welt can also break enemies weak to Imaginary.

March 7th
March 7th

Her Shields keep the team safe, a good fit for the budget team.

Natasha
Natasha

An easy-to-get 4-star healer for the budget team.

How to Play Trailblazer (Destruction)

Pick the Right Ultimate for the Fight

The Trailblazer's Ultimate, Stardust Ace, lets you choose between two attacks. Blowout: Farewell Hit deals up to 450% of ATK to a single enemy, which is the one to use when there is only one enemy. Blowout: RIP Home Run is a Blast attack, dealing 270% of ATK to the main target and 162% to the enemies next to it, and it is stronger when there are 3 enemies.

Break Weaknesses to Power Up the Talent

Every time the Trailblazer personally inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, their Talent, Perfect Pickoff, raises their ATK, stacking up to 2 times. From E6, defeating an enemy counts too. Early enemies have tiny Toughness bars, so this is very easy to trigger, but it gets harder as enemies get tougher. Once the buff is up, use the Ultimate right away to get the most damage out of it.

The Skill Hits All Three Targets Evenly

Their Skill, RIP Home Run, deals the same damage to the main target and the 2 enemies next to it, and only the main target takes extra Toughness damage. It is fairly weak against a single enemy but well worth using against groups. The Trace Fighting Will also adds 25% DMG against the main target.

Technique Heals, and the Trailblazer Can Take Hits

Their Technique, Immortal Third Strike, immediately heals all allies for 15% of their respective Max HP, so use it when the team is low on HP. Thanks to the DEF from the Trace Tenacity and the small heal from E2, the Trailblazer can also step in and soak some hits for teammates who are low on HP.

Quick Tips

  • The Trace Ready for Battle gives 15 Energy at the start of battle, so your first Ultimate comes sooner.
  • Only use Basic ATK when you need Skill Points back or have none left, otherwise just use the Skill.
  • E4 raises CRIT Rate against any enemy with Weakness Break, the enemy doesn't need to be weak to Physical.
  • The Trailblazer's Paths don't share Trace progress, and their Light Cones and relics are different too, so think carefully before spending materials.
  • If you don't have a good Light Cone yet, the 3-star Collapsing Sky boosts Basic ATK and Skill DMG and works as a stopgap.

Trailblazer (Destruction) FAQ

Should I invest heavily in Trailblazer (Destruction)?
Almost never. The Trailblazer works well early on, but their damage falls behind later and their kit has little room to grow. Heavy investment can still make them strong, but your materials pay off much better on other characters.
Which Trailblazer should I use?
Trailblazer (Harmony) is far stronger than the Destruction and Preservation versions. You can only use one version at a time, and their Traces, Light Cones and relics are all different, so focusing on one saves a lot of resources.
Are there other Physical damage dealers that can replace them?
Yes. Sushang and Luka are easy-to-get 4-stars who are strong against single targets. Clara, Yunli and Argenti are much stronger, and Argenti plays almost like a polished, upgraded take on what Trailblazer (Destruction) tries to do.
What Light Cone should I use without On the Fall of an Aeon?
Do I need to pull for the Trailblazer's Eidolons?
No. You will get all of the Trailblazer's Eidolons over time. The one most worth looking forward to is E4, which gives 25% CRIT Rate when attacking an enemy with Weakness Break.
