“In business, it’s best to work with persuadable types. For those who are less persuadable, cooling them down with a fan works wonders.”

Should You Pull for Tingyun?

Support

Tingyun is a 4-star Harmony support built to power up a single damage dealer. Her Skill raises that ally's ATK and adds extra Lightning DMG to their attacks, while her Ultimate instantly restores 50 Energy and boosts the DMG of the ally you choose. She was released on day one but is still very useful thanks to her Energy restoration, and she runs quite Skill Point positive, so if you have her, build her early.

A great fit for teams built around one carry, especially damage dealers who scale off ATK, or ones with expensive Ultimates that need lots of Energy like Argenti, Yunli or Clara. In teams that spread damage across several characters, her single-target buffs are worth less.

Memory of Chaos Very strong Her buffs only go to one ally, which suits single-carry teams best, and the 50 Energy from her Ultimate lets your carry use their own Ultimate more often.
Pure Fiction Strong Every buff she has goes to just one ally, so in a mode full of enemies she stands out less than in the other two.
Apocalyptic Shadow Very strong One of her better modes, and reaching E6 lifts her even higher here, as it does in every mode.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely strong buffs to ATK, to damage, and to raw multipliers
  • Can be played very Skill Point positive
  • The Energy regeneration on her Ultimate is enormously valuable
  • Well worth her Eidolons

Cons

  • She works best in single-carry teams because all of her buffs only affect one target

Best Tingyun Build Guide

Tingyun Support Build

Tingyun's Benediction scales off her own ATK, and she gets her Energy back faster the more turns she takes. So stack SPD and ATK first, then add a bit of HP to keep her alive.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance! Best
A 4-star Light Cone that is well worth stacking to S5. It lets Tingyun Advance Forward the whole team, which helps you reach higher SPD breakpoints and clear stages in fewer turns. It is strongest when she can use her Ultimate at least once every 3 actions, ideally once every 2.
  • 2 Flowing Nightglow Flowing Nightglow Best
The best pick if you want to push damage as high as possible. It raises Tingyun's ATK and increases the DMG dealt by the whole team when she uses her Ultimate.
  • 3 A Grounded Ascent A Grounded Ascent Great
A very strong option. It gives Tingyun extra Energy so her Ultimate comes around faster, refunds 1 Skill Point every 2 uses of her Skill or Ultimate, and adds a ramping DMG buff to the ally she targets.
  • 4 But the Battle Isn't Over But the Battle Isn't Over Good
Gives Energy Regeneration Rate and restores a Skill Point after she uses her Ultimate. The DMG buff only helps if Tingyun acts before your damage dealer, but even without it the Light Cone works fine, and its high base stats help her survive.
  • 5 Meshing Cogs Meshing Cogs Easy to get
A 3-star Light Cone that is easy to get to S5. At S5 she regenerates 8 Energy every time she gets hit or uses her Basic ATK, so her Ultimate comes back faster.

Best Relics

1
Her best set. It raises Tingyun's SPD, and every time she uses her Skill or Ultimate on an ally, that ally gets a stacking CRIT DMG boost. A great match for teams with a single damage dealer.
2
The second choice. It raises Tingyun's SPD and gives the whole team a SPD buff after she uses her Ultimate. Time her Ultimate so the SPD buff covers your key teammates.
3
A specialist set. Tingyun is Advanced Forward after using her Ultimate, so her next turn comes sooner and she gets her Energy back faster.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
Advances Tingyun's first turn so she can buff before her teammates act, gets her Ultimate up sooner and adds Energy Regeneration Rate. With enough SPD she can even go before fast enemies.
2
Raises the whole team's CRIT DMG and helps Tingyun resist debuffs. You need at least 30% Effect RES to turn on the CRIT DMG bonus. This set and Sprightly Vonwacq are both top picks, so either one is fine.
3
Use it when Tingyun is supporting a damage dealer who scales off ATK, and it adds Energy Regeneration Rate. The damage dealer has to be in the first slot of the team.

Substats

Go for ATK% on the Body and Planar Sphere because Benediction scales off Tingyun's ATK, with HP% only as a backup. SPD Feet are a must, and an Energy Regeneration Rate Rope keeps her Ultimate cycling quickly.

SPD and ATK% are equally important, just get them to the numbers you are aiming for. After that, add HP so Tingyun can take hard hits. If you use Broken Keel, make sure you have 30% Effect RES.

Skill Priority

Skill > Ultimate > Talent > Basic ATK

Her Skill is her main ATK buff, so level it first. Her Ultimate comes right after, since its DMG buff stays valuable late into the game. Her Talent makes the ally with Benediction deal extra Lightning DMG whenever Tingyun attacks. Basic ATK is mostly there to trigger her Talent and generate Skill Points, so leave it for last.

Trace Priority

Jubilant Passage > Nourished Joviality > Knell Subdual

Jubilant Passage gives Tingyun 5 Energy at the start of each of her turns, so her Ultimate comes up sooner. Nourished Joviality raises her SPD by 20% for 1 turn after she uses her Skill, so she acts more often. Knell Subdual only boosts Basic ATK DMG, so unlock it last.

Eidolon Priority

E6 is the most valuable

Her Eidolons are not required, but every one of them helps. E1 gives the ally with Benediction 20% SPD for 1 turn after that ally uses their own Ultimate. E2 lets the ally with Benediction regenerate 5 Energy after defeating an enemy, once per turn. E4 raises the DMG multiplier provided by Benediction by 20%. E6 raises the Energy her Ultimate restores to an ally from 50 to 60, which sounds small but makes a very clear difference in real fights.

Best Tingyun Teams

Hypercarry Team

Replace Argenti with: Yunli, Clara Replace Sparkle with: Hanya

Tingyun and Sparkle pour their offensive buffs into one damage dealer, making them strong enough to take out enemies quickly. Put whichever damage dealer you are building in the carry slot. Argenti, Yunli and Clara all need lots of Energy, so they get a lot out of Tingyun's Ultimate. Without Sparkle, Hanya can step in with single-target SPD and ATK buffs plus Skill Point restoration. Huohuo handles the healing.

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

Dan Heng especially wants Tingyun, because his Talent only activates when an ally's ability targets him, and her Skill and Ultimate do exactly that. Yukong is the second support and Natasha takes care of healing. The whole team needs no 5-star characters.

Best Teammates for Tingyun

Argenti
Argenti

His Ultimate is very expensive, so he loves the Energy and DMG buff from Tingyun's Ultimate plus the ATK buff from her Skill. Together they create short bursts of damage, which is exactly what Argenti's Ultimate is about.

Yunli
Yunli

A damage dealer who relies heavily on Energy, which makes Tingyun a great choice for her.

Clara
Clara

Another Energy-hungry damage dealer, and Tingyun's Ultimate helps Clara use her own Ultimate more often.

Dan Heng
Dan Heng

His Talent only activates when an ally's ability targets him, so a buff from Tingyun triggers it right away.

Sparkle
Sparkle

Another offensive buffer. Paired with Tingyun, she pushes a single carry's damage up a lot.

Hanya
Hanya

Can replace Sparkle. She gives one ally SPD and ATK and restores Skill Points, which works well with Tingyun's buffs.

Bronya
Bronya

Boosts DMG and gives the damage dealer extra turns.

Ruan Mei
Ruan Mei

Brings her own unique buffs like Break Efficiency and All RES PEN, which pair well with Tingyun's buffs.

Asta
Asta

Gives the whole team SPD and a stacking ATK buff.

Sunday
Sunday

Advances the damage dealer forward in the turn order, a good pick if you don't have Huohuo.

How to Play Tingyun

Put Benediction on an ATK-Scaling Damage Dealer

Tingyun's Skill, Soothing Melody, grants one ally Benediction. That ally gets more ATK (capped by a share of Tingyun's own ATK) and deals Additional Lightning DMG every time they attack. Benediction lasts 3 turns and only works on the most recent ally who received her Skill, so just keep it on the damage dealer whose kit scales off ATK. Because it counts turns rather than actions, extra actions like Ultimates or Follow-up ATKs don't use it up.

Use Her Ultimate for Energy and DMG

Her Ultimate, Amidst the Rejoicing Clouds, costs 130 Energy. It instantly restores 50 Energy to one ally and raises their DMG for 2 turns. Use it on your damage dealer to buff their DMG and get their Ultimate up sooner, or on anyone who is short on Energy for their own Ultimate.

SPD Is Her Most Important Stat

Tingyun has a high base SPD of 112, and Nourished Joviality adds 20% SPD after she uses her Skill. At the start of each of her turns, Jubilant Passage gives her 5 Energy. The faster she is, the more turns she gets, the faster her Energy comes back, the more Skill Points she generates, and the sooner your damage dealer gets Energy back.

Her Basic ATK Is Not Wasted

Her Talent, Violet Sparknado, makes the ally with Benediction deal Additional Lightning DMG to an enemy whenever Tingyun attacks it. Add the 40% Basic ATK DMG from Knell Subdual, and the Basic ATKs she uses between Skills generate Skill Points while chipping in some damage, enough to help clear out weaker enemies.

Quick Tips

  • Use her Technique, Gentle Breeze, before a fight so Tingyun regenerates 50 Energy right away and gets her Ultimate sooner.
  • Don't use her Skill on someone else while your damage dealer has Benediction, because it only stays on the most recent ally who received it.
  • If you don't have 4 good pieces yet, combine 2 pieces of Messenger Traversing Hackerspace with 2 pieces of Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal, Musketeer of Wild Wheat, Prisoner in Deep Confinement or The Wind-Soaring Valorous.
  • A 4-piece Musketeer of Wild Wheat set is also an easy-to-farm alternative to mixing 2 SPD pieces with 2 ATK pieces, as long as the substats are good.
  • While Tingyun is still low level, favor defensive stats so she survives.

Tingyun FAQ

Is Tingyun worth building?
Yes, and if you have her, build her early. Even though she was released on day one, Tingyun is still a very useful 4-star support thanks to her Energy restoration, and she fits into lots of teams that need Energy. She works best in teams built around a single carry.
Which damage dealers does Tingyun suit?
She greatly raises the damage of any main damage dealer from The Hunt, Destruction or Erudition, especially ones who scale off ATK. Energy-hungry characters like Argenti, Yunli and Clara are an even better match.
How much SPD does Tingyun need?
The more the better, because every turn gives her more Energy and more Skill Points. Aim for 160 or more at the top end, otherwise try to land on the right SPD breakpoints.
What Light Cone should Tingyun use without a 5-star?
Dance! Dance! Dance! is a very strong 4-star option, ideally at S5. Meshing Cogs is a 3-star Light Cone that is easy to get to S5 and helps her regenerate Energy faster.
Which Eidolon should I aim for?
Her Eidolons are not required, but they are well worth having. E6 is the most valuable because her Ultimate restores 60 Energy instead of 50. E2 and E4 are also good. At E6 she does better in all three modes.
