Should You Pull for Gilgamesh?

Sub-DPS

Gilgamesh is a Lightning character on the Path of Destruction who deals damage and buffs the whole team at the same time. He builds up Interest whenever his teammates act, switches over to using only his Skill once he reaches 10 points, and his Ultimate, Enuma Elish, hits every enemy very hard. He was free to claim in Version 4.4, so just pick him up, especially if you already have Saber.

He fits best if you own Saber, since the two of them share their own joint attack and Gilgamesh buffs her massively. He also suits teammates who use their Ultimate often or whose Ultimate costs a lot of Energy. Without Saber he can still be your main damage dealer, but he needs Eidolons to be truly strong in that role.

Memory of Chaos Very strong With Saber, their joint attack hits every enemy and instantly gives her 120 Energy, so her Ultimate comes around much faster.
Pure Fiction Very strong His Ultimate hits all enemies and then bounces 10 more times, and his Skill also splashes onto adjacent targets, so he handles big waves well.
Apocalyptic Shadow Outstanding His Ultimate deals unusually high Toughness damage, and he also gives the whole team ATK and CRIT DMG.

Best Gilgamesh Build Guide

Best Gilgamesh Build

Gilgamesh scales with ATK and CRIT stats. He already gets plenty of CRIT DMG from his Traces and SPD from his Talent, so you mainly need to worry about CRIT Rate and ATK.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 I Am As You Behold I Am As You Behold Best
His signature Light Cone and his strongest pick. It gives ATK, Energy Regeneration Rate and a big boost to his Ultimate DMG, and the whole team gets extra CRIT DMG on top. His teams usually include several damage dealers, so that team-wide CRIT DMG is very valuable. In Version 4.4 it was also given out once you reached 200 combined pulls.
  • 2 A Thankless Coronation A Thankless Coronation Great
Saber's signature Light Cone, but it works very well on Gilgamesh too. It gives ATK and CRIT DMG and restores Energy every time he uses his Ultimate, which helps a lot since his Ultimate costs 360 Energy.
  • 3 Thus Burns the Dawn Thus Burns the Dawn Great
Phainon's signature Light Cone. It has the highest base ATK in the game (687) and lets him ignore 18% of the enemy's DEF on every attack. Its SPD bonus gets multiplied by Gilgamesh's Talent, which makes it a good fit. The catch is that its DMG boost only turns on after an Ultimate, so it only occasionally applies to his joint attack with Saber.
  • 4 On the Fall of an Aeon On the Fall of an Aeon Easy to get
A Light Cone from Herta's store and the easiest one to get. Its ATK bonus ramps up after a while at the start of the fight, and because Gilgamesh deals a lot of Toughness damage, he can trigger its DMG boost from Weakness Breaks.
  • 5 A Trail of Bygone Blood A Trail of Bygone Blood Good
A 4-star Light Cone that gives him the CRIT Rate he needs, along with extra Skill and Ultimate DMG.

Best Relics

1
His best set and the one most players use. It gives CRIT Rate and boosts Skill and Ultimate DMG, which are exactly his two main attacks. The built-in CRIT Rate also makes him easier to build.
2
Only use this with Saber (or when your team has E2 Mortenax Blade). With Saber, their joint attack lands several hits on every enemy, so this set boosts that attack and gives Gilgamesh ATK after it goes off.
3
Its DEF ignore stacks with the DEF ignore from his Skill. It is strongest against Quantum-weak enemies, but it can still keep up with Scholar Lost in Erudition when paired with a DEF reduction source like Mortenax Blade. In some teams with Follow-up ATK teammates, though, he ends up with more DEF ignore than he can use, so skip this set there.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The top pick for Gilgamesh's own damage. His Ultimate costs a huge amount of Energy, so this set gives him a very large DMG boost.
2
Almost as strong as the top pick, and it gives the CRIT Rate he needs plus ATK. This set pays off when Gilgamesh is teamed with Saber.
3
A good fit with Saber: their joint attack turns on the ATK bonus, and whenever anyone defeats an enemy, the whole team gets 12% CRIT DMG.

Main Stats

  • FeetATK%

  • Link RopeATK%

Substats

  • 1CRIT Rate (until close to 100% in combat)
  • 2CRIT DMG
  • 3ATK%
  • 4SPD

Take CRIT Rate on the body, since his buffs already give him more than enough CRIT DMG. Go ATK% on the feet instead of SPD, because his Talent already adds SPD based on his Interest. On the sphere, Lightning DMG Boost comes first, but ATK% works fine until you have one.

Stack CRIT Rate first so his hits crit reliably. His Hero's Hauteur and Hegemon's Strife Traces already cover most of his CRIT DMG.

Stat Targets

  • ATK3000 or more
  • CRIT Rateclose to 100% (in combat)
  • CRIT DMG120% or more (outside combat)
  • SPDbase SPD, no need to build it

Skill Priority

Ultimate, Talent, Skill > Basic ATK

His Ultimate deals huge damage to every enemy, so level it early. His Talent is also worth leveling early, because it raises the Ultimate DMG buff he gets from it and increases the damage of his joint attack with Saber. Leveling his Skill raises both its damage and the DEF it ignores. Leave Basic ATK for last: he only uses it at the start of a fight, and leveling it only adds to its own damage.

Trace Priority

Hegemon's Strife > Epic's Opening > Hero's Hauteur

Hegemon's Strife gives all allies 20% ATK and 20% CRIT DMG, with an extra bonus for anyone whose Max Energy is above 140. Epic's Opening gives Gilgamesh extra Interest and Energy whenever a teammate uses their Ultimate. Hero's Hauteur gives him 25% CRIT DMG for every point of Interest he gains, stacking up to 6 times.

Eidolon Priority

E1 is the best first step, E2 is a good stopping point for spenders

E1, He Who Saw the Deep, lets teammates share the DEF ignore from King's Acknowledgement, gives Gilgamesh 60% more ATK and restores 40 Energy every time he uses his Skill. E2, Wisdom That Encompassed All, gives him 5 Interest when entering combat and 5 more each time he uses his Ultimate, and raises his Skill damage by a lot. E6 is a big jump: the whole team gets 20% All-Type RES PEN, and Golden Rule gives his Ultimate a massive CRIT DMG boost.

Best Gilgamesh Teams

Best Team With Saber

Replace Robin • Summeretto with: Trailblazer (Remembrance), Tribbie, Robin, Sunday, Mortenax Blade Replace Huohuo with: Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae, Hyacine

Once Gilgamesh and Saber have attacked 8 times between them, they launch a Joint Follow-Up ATK on all enemies. After it, Gilgamesh gains 3 Interest, Saber instantly gets 120 Energy, and her next Ultimate deals much more damage. Robin • Summeretto gives Saber Energy, boosts her ATK and lets the whole team ignore DEF. Huohuo boosts the team's ATK and restores their Energy.

Follow-up ATK Team (Gilgamesh as Main DPS)

If you want Gilgamesh to carry on his own, pair him with Ashveil and Mortenax Blade. Both bring plenty of offensive buffs and help him build Interest very quickly. You can swap one of those two slots for Trailblazer (Remembrance), Robin, Sunday or Tribbie. Even so, Gilgamesh with Saber is still stronger than this team.

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

For new players who do not have any limited 4-star or 5-star characters yet. Gilgamesh is the main damage dealer. March 7th (The Hunt) gives him extra SPD and CRIT DMG, Yukong boosts the team's CRIT stats and ATK, and Lynx keeps everyone alive.

Team Without Saber

If you do not have Saber, run Trailblazer (Remembrance) and Welt as his supports. Trailblazer (Remembrance) lets him deal extra True DMG and advances his turn, while Huohuo boosts the team's ATK and restores their Energy. The team works, but Gilgamesh carrying on his own falls a bit short compared to playing him with Saber.

Best Teammates for Gilgamesh

Saber
Saber

His number one partner. The two share their own Joint Follow-Up ATK, after which Saber gets 120 Energy and her next Ultimate hits much harder. Saber's expensive Ultimate also gives Gilgamesh back a good chunk of Energy.

Robin • Summeretto
Robin • Summeretto

Gives Saber Energy and ATK, and lets the whole team ignore DEF. She is a regular in Saber teams.

Huohuo
Huohuo

Shows up in most of Gilgamesh's teams, keeping everyone alive while boosting the team's ATK and restoring their Energy.

Mortenax Blade
Mortenax Blade

Attacks often in a Follow-up ATK team, so Gilgamesh builds Interest fast and gets a big SPD boost. Mortenax Blade's DEF reduction plus Gilgamesh's DEF ignore lets him get through almost all of the enemy's DEF, and with Gilgamesh at E1 the whole team shares that.

Trailblazer (Remembrance)
Trailblazer (Remembrance)

Gilgamesh's high Max Energy maxes out the True DMG buff right away. The Energy he gains when teammates use their Ultimate also lets Trailblazer (Remembrance) advance turns more often.

Tribbie
Tribbie

Provides RES PEN, and when she uses the Dance! Dance! Dance! Light Cone she can advance the whole team's turns.

Robin
Robin

Boosts the whole team's damage, advances everyone's turns and increases the damage of Gilgamesh and Saber's joint attack.

Sunday
Sunday

Boosts CRIT stats, advances the turn of the ally he buffs and restores their Energy. He works on either Saber or Gilgamesh himself.

Ashveil
Ashveil

Goes with Mortenax Blade when Gilgamesh is the main damage dealer, bringing plenty of offensive buffs and helping him build Interest quickly.

March 7th (The Hunt)
March 7th (The Hunt)

A 4-star choice for new players that gives Gilgamesh extra SPD and CRIT DMG.

How to Play Gilgamesh

Build 10 Interest to Unlock His Skill

At the start of a fight, Gilgamesh automatically uses his Basic ATK on his turn. Every time another ally takes action, he gains 1 point of Interest, and each point gives him 10% SPD. The first time he reaches 10 Interest, he enters the Interest Piqued! state for the rest of the battle and from then on can only use his Skill, Gate of Babylon. This Skill costs no Skill Points, but using it clears all his Interest, so his SPD keeps going up and down. Fast teammates, and teammates who advance turns or use Follow-up ATKs, help him build Interest much faster.

A 360-Energy Ultimate That Runs on His Teammates

Enuma Elish costs a whopping 360 Energy, but it hits every enemy and then bounces 10 more times onto random enemies, with very high Toughness damage too. Thanks to his Epic's Opening Trace, every time a teammate uses their Ultimate, Gilgamesh gains 2 Interest and restores Energy equal to 30% of the Energy that teammate just spent. A teammate's Ultimate also gives him King's Burden, which raises his Ultimate DMG for 3 turns. That is why he pairs well with teammates who use their Ultimate often or have an expensive one.

Joint Follow-Up ATK With Saber

With Saber on the team, every attack by Gilgamesh or Saber adds 1 to a shared tally. When it reaches 8, the two launch a Joint Follow-Up ATK on all enemies: Gilgamesh gains 3 Interest, Saber instantly gets 120 Energy, and her next Ultimate deals much more damage. This is why Gilgamesh is almost always played alongside Saber.

Use His Technique Before Combat

His Technique, Enkidu, creates a Special Dimension for 10 seconds. Enemies inside it enter the King's Permission state and stop moving. Attack one of them to start the fight and every frozen enemy enters combat together, takes Lightning DMG, and Gilgamesh immediately gains 3 Interest, which unlocks his Skill sooner.

Quick Tips

  • Do not build SPD on Gilgamesh, since Interest already gives him SPD, so just leave him at his base SPD.
  • Get CRIT Rate first, because he already gets plenty of CRIT DMG from his Traces.
  • If your team already has a lot of DEF reduction or DEF ignore, watch out for going over the cap, especially with Genius of Brilliant Stars or Thus Burns the Dawn.
  • If you do not have a good 4-piece set yet, mix 2-piece bonuses such as Scholar Lost in Erudition, World-Remaking Deliverer, Ever-Glorious Magical Girl or Wavestrider Captain, and pick the pieces with the best substats.
  • His Basic ATK is only used at the start of a fight, so save your materials for his Ultimate, Talent and Skill.

Gilgamesh FAQ

Is Gilgamesh worth getting?
Yes, he was free to claim in Version 4.4. The real question is whether to get his E1: if you plan to use him long term or play him with Saber, E1 is worth it.
Can I use Gilgamesh without Saber?
Yes. You can run him as the main damage dealer with Ashveil and Mortenax Blade, or pair him with Trailblazer (Remembrance) and Welt. He still shines most next to Saber, and carrying on his own without Eidolons falls a bit short.
Should I get his signature Light Cone, I Am As You Behold?
Yes, it is his best Light Cone and it also gives the whole team CRIT DMG. In Version 4.4 it was given out once you reached 200 combined pulls. Without it, A Thankless Coronation or On the Fall of an Aeon work well too.
Which Eidolon should I stop at?
E1 is the strongest first step, since the whole team gets to ignore DEF and Gilgamesh gains ATK and Energy. If you are willing to spend, E2 is a good stopping point: he builds Interest faster and his Skill deals much more damage.
Why does Gilgamesh not need SPD?
His Talent gives him 10% SPD for every point of Interest, and he gains Interest every time a teammate acts. Leaving him at base SPD and putting your stats into CRIT Rate and ATK gets you more value.
