Should You Pull for Sampo?

Sub-DPS

Sampo is a Wind Sub-DPS who stacks Wind Shear on enemies to deal damage over time. His Ultimate also makes enemies take more DoT, so every DoT character on the team benefits from it. These days, though, he has fallen behind the limited damage dealers and even newer 4-stars, so he is only worth raising if you really like his kit or need a Wind DoT character.

He suits you if you play a DoT team with Kafka, or need a Wind character who both spreads DoT and raises the DoT enemies take. If you are looking for someone to carry your team long term, save your resources for other characters.

Memory of Chaos Decent The DoT playstyle is weaker than other playstyles right now, and newer characters have left Sampo far behind.
Pure Fiction Good Hitting the whole field and spreading Wind Shear widely is easy for him, but his total damage can't keep up with newer options.
Apocalyptic Shadow Decent He breaks Toughness well when enemies are weak to Wind, but that alone isn't enough to compete with current characters.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Decent breaking ability
  • Deals consistent damage through DoT
  • Excellent Eidolon scaling
  • Can be played Skill Point positive if needed

Cons

  • Needs a little ramp-up time in a fight
  • Requires a fair amount of investment
  • Free Light Cone options are fairly limited

Best Sampo Build Guide

Sampo DoT Build

Sampo doesn't need CRIT as a priority because most of his damage comes from Wind Shear. Get enough Effect Hit Rate so his debuffs land reliably, then put the rest into ATK and SPD.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 Good Night and Sleep Well Good Night and Sleep Well Best
The 4-star that fits Sampo best. The more debuffs the enemy has, the more DMG it gives him, and both Wind Shear and his Ultimate's debuff count. Superimposition 5 is the recommended level.
  • 2 Lies Dance on the Breeze Lies Dance on the Breeze Great
Cipher's signature Light Cone. It increases SPD by 18% and reduces all enemies' DEF by 24%. It is a very strong pick for Nihility supports, but it only pays off if you can push Sampo to 170 SPD.
  • 3 Eyes of the Prey Eyes of the Prey Great
A 4-star that gives Effect Hit Rate and boosts DoT, which is exactly what Sampo needs. Superimposition 5 is the recommended level.
  • 4 In the Name of the World In the Name of the World Great
Helps Sampo apply his debuffs more consistently and boosts his DMG against debuffed enemies, which fits his kit well.
  • 5 Those Many Springs Those Many Springs Great
Gives a ton of Effect Hit Rate and can increase the DMG enemies take.

Best Relics

1
The best set. It increases DoT DMG and lets Sampo ignore part of the enemy's DEF, so his total damage goes up noticeably.
2
The second choice. You get Wind DMG Boost plus more DMG against debuffed enemies, and Wind Shear counts as a debuff.
3
The third choice, giving Wind DMG Boost and ATK. Both of these push Sampo's damage up.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The best set for DoT characters. It increases DoT DMG once Sampo reaches 2400 or 3600 ATK. The 3600 threshold may need extra ATK buffs from teammates.
2
Gives ATK and a DMG increase, but Sampo needs at least 135 SPD. If you can reach 160 SPD, the set gets even better.
3
Increases ATK, which in turn raises his DoT DMG. It only needs 120 SPD, which isn't hard to reach.

Main Stats

  • BodyEffect Hit Rate or ATK%
  • FeetSPD
  • Planar SphereWind DMG Boost or ATK%
  • Link RopeATK%

Substats

  • 1SPD
  • 2Effect Hit Rate
  • 3ATK%

Effect Hit Rate on the Body is equal to or slightly better than ATK%, because it helps Wind Shear and his Ultimate's debuff land reliably. On the Planar Sphere, Wind DMG Boost comes before ATK%. Feet are always SPD so Sampo gets more turns.

SPD only needs to reach the breakpoint you picked, and Effect Hit Rate only needs to reach the recommended amount. Put everything else into ATK%. Sampo's Talent has a fairly low base chance to inflict Wind Shear, so Effect Hit Rate helps it land more consistently when you fight several enemies.

Stat Targets

  • Effect Hit Rate67% to 80%
  • ATK2600 or above, 2800 to 3200 if you want to aim high
  • SPD134, 143 (recommended) or 160

Skill Priority

Talent > Skill > Ultimate > Basic ATK

His Talent, Windtorn Dagger, is his main source of damage, so level it first. His Skill is great for Weakness Break and deals good damage. His Ultimate raises DoT damage. Basic ATK is mostly there to generate Skill Points, so it goes last.

Trace Priority

Trap > Defensive Position > Spice Up

Trap extends Wind Shear by 1 turn, to 4 turns, which makes keeping the stacks up much easier. Defensive Position regenerates 10 extra Energy every time he uses his Ultimate. Spice Up makes enemies with Wind Shear deal 15% less damage to Sampo, so he is harder to take down.

Eidolon Priority

E1 is well worth it, E4 and E6 give Wind Shear a big boost

E1 gives his Skill 1 extra hit, which raises its damage, Toughness damage and the Energy he gains. E2 spreads Wind Shear to all enemies when an enemy afflicted with Wind Shear is defeated, which helps against groups. E4 makes every Skill hit on an enemy with 5 or more stacks of Wind Shear immediately deal 8% of the current Wind Shear DMG. E6 increases Wind Shear's DMG multiplier by 15%.

Best Sampo Teams

Kafka DoT Team

Replace Kafka with: Himeko Replace Ruan Mei with: Robin, Jiaoqiu, Tingyun Replace Huohuo with: Gallagher, Gepard

Kafka is Sampo's best teammate because her Skill and Ultimate trigger the DoTs already on enemies, Wind Shear included. Sampo stacks Wind Shear, then uses his Ultimate so enemies take more DoT from every source. Remember to build Sampo's SPD higher than Kafka's.

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

Replace Asta with: Tingyun, Luka Replace Natasha with: Gallagher

This team is all about DoT. Serval and Asta both apply DoT on their own, with Asta inflicting Burn through her Basic ATK. Sampo adds Wind Shear and uses his Ultimate to make all of those effects hurt more.

Best Teammates for Sampo

Kafka
Kafka

Sampo's number one teammate. Kafka re-triggers Wind Shear with her Skill and Ultimate, and once Sampo is E6 his Wind Shear is already stronger, so every trigger hits even harder.

Himeko
Himeko

Can replace Kafka as the main DPS. All her attacks can apply Burn to multiple enemies, and she deals more damage to enemies afflicted with Burn.

Serval
Serval

The 4-star main DPS of the budget team. She applies DoT on her own, which Sampo's Ultimate then amplifies.

Asta
Asta

Her Basic ATK inflicts Burn on a single enemy. She covers support, Burn and Skill Point generation in one slot.

Jiaoqiu
Jiaoqiu

Brings his own DoT and makes enemies take more DMG through his own debuff, Ashen Roast.

Luka
Luka

Adds another DoT character to the team, and his kit also makes enemies take more DMG.

Robin
Robin

Increases the whole team's ATK and DMG, and advances everyone's turn after her Ultimate.

Tingyun
Tingyun

Buffs allies' ATK and regenerates Energy for them, so Sampo or Kafka gets their Ultimate sooner.

Gallagher
Gallagher

A 4-star healer whose Enhanced Basic ATK applies a debuff that lowers the enemy's ATK. When an ally attacks the debuffed enemy, the team gets healed.

Gepard
Gepard

Trades some damage for more team survivability. With Trend of the Universal Market equipped, he can apply Burn that scales off his DEF when he is attacked.

How to Play Sampo

Stack Wind Shear on Enemies

His Talent, Windtorn Dagger, gives every attack Sampo makes a 65% base chance to inflict Wind Shear for 3 turns (4 turns with Trap), stacking up to 5 times. Each stack deals Wind DoT based on Sampo's ATK. His Basic ATK hits 3 times, his Skill 5 to 6 times and his Ultimate 4 times on every enemy, so a few turns are enough to reach 5 stacks. Reapplying Wind Shear just once refreshes the duration of the whole stack.

His Ultimate Amplifies the Whole Team's DoT

His Ultimate, Surprise Present, hits all enemies and makes them take more DoT. This works on every kind of DoT, both Sampo's and his teammates', including the DoT that comes from Weakness Break. The Ultimate costs 120 Energy, and Defensive Position gives 10 back, so it comes around fairly quickly.

Break Toughness with His Bouncing Skill

His Skill, Ricochet Love, hits the main target once, then the remaining hits bounce randomly across the enemies on the field. In total, the Skill deals 90 Toughness damage, which is very strong against Elites and bosses. If only 1 enemy is left, every bounce lands on it and breaks its Toughness even faster, especially when it is weak to Wind.

Delay Enemy Actions with His Technique

His Technique, Shining Bright, Blinds enemies in a set area for 10 seconds so they can't detect your team. If you start a battle against a Blinded enemy, every enemy has its action delayed by 25% (a 100% fixed chance), which gives you extra time to spread Wind Shear across the field.

Quick Tips

  • When Sampo plays alongside Kafka, keep his SPD higher than hers.
  • Get at least 67% Effect Hit Rate so his Ultimate's debuff is guaranteed to land.
  • Against a single target, you can use only Basic ATK and his Ultimate to keep Wind Shear on the enemy indefinitely while leaving Skill Points for your teammates.
  • Spice Up makes Sampo fairly tanky, so you can lean your substats toward offense.
  • Revelry by the Sea needs 2400 or 3600 ATK, and a teammate who buffs ATK makes the higher threshold easier to reach.

Sampo FAQ

Is Sampo worth building?
Only if you like him or need a Wind DoT character. Sampo has fallen behind the limited damage dealers and even newer 4-stars, so he is only worth raising if you really enjoy his kit.
Does Sampo need CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG?
They are not a priority. Most of his damage comes from Wind Shear, so Effect Hit Rate, SPD and ATK matter more.
Who is Sampo's best teammate?
Kafka. She re-triggers the DoTs on enemies, Wind Shear included, while Sampo's Ultimate makes enemies take more DoT.
How much Effect Hit Rate does Sampo need?
Around 67% to 80%. At 67% or more, his Ultimate's debuff is guaranteed to land.
Which Sampo Eidolons are worth getting?
E1 is well worth it because his Skill gets 1 extra hit. E4 lets his Skill detonate part of the Wind Shear damage once the enemy has 5 stacks, and E6 directly increases Wind Shear damage.
