Gepard

PreservationIce5★

“Loyalty isn’t an inherent virtue of humans. As such, the recipient of that loyalty also needs to be worthy.”

Should You Pull for Gepard?

Shielder

Gepard is a Preservation character who shields the whole team and draws enemy attacks away from his allies. He is very easy to build and spends most of his turns on Basic ATK, so he leaves plenty of Skill Points for your damage dealers. He faces a lot more competition in harder modes from the sustain units released after him, but his Shields are still very thick and can stop hits that would otherwise take an ally down in one shot.

A good fit if you need another shielder and don't want to chase limited characters. Gepard is a standard 5-star, so when you reach 300 pulls on the standard banner and get to pick a 5-star, he is a solid choice to consider.

Memory of Chaos Good His Shields are still sturdy, but he has to compete with a long list of sustain units released after him.
Pure Fiction Decent There are simply too many newer sustain units competing for the same slot in this mode.
Apocalyptic Shadow Good His team-wide Shields soak up even very heavy hits, though newer sustain units still compete with him.
Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Very low investment
  • Skill Point positive most of the time
  • Good team-wide shielding
  • Solid Energy management
  • The best user of the Trend of the Universal Market Light Cone

Cons

  • Relies on his Ultimate, so he hates anything that drains Energy
  • A bit weak against crowd control and damage over time
  • Freezing enemies is generally unreliable
  • Low base SPD
  • Hard to sustain fast characters or characters who advance their own action

Best Gepard Build Guide

Best Gepard Build

Gepard's Shields scale off his DEF, so the more DEF you stack, the thicker they get. He is also the one taking hits for the team, so extra HP to make him tankier helps too.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 Moment of Victory Moment of Victory Best
Gives a huge DEF boost and makes Gepard much more likely to be targeted. His DEF goes up even further every time he gets hit, which means even thicker Shields.
  • 2 Journey, Forever Peaceful Journey, Forever Peaceful Best
The best 4-star Light Cone for Gepard, and it competes with Moment of Victory for the top spot. It makes his Shields stronger, and the whole team deals more DMG while allies are shielded.
  • 3 Landau's Choice Landau's Choice Great
Lowers the DMG Gepard takes and helps him draw more attacks. The difference from Moment of Victory is that it reduces DMG instead of adding DEF%.
  • 4 Day One of My New Life Day One of My New Life Great
A 4-star Light Cone that raises Gepard's DEF and lowers the DMG the whole team takes, so the team survives better.
  • 5 Trend of the Universal Market Trend of the Universal Market Good
The pick for teams that want debuffs on enemies. It raises his DEF, and every time Gepard is attacked he applies an extra Burn to the enemy. A great match with Acheron.

Best Relics

1
His best set. It makes his Shields stronger, and allies protected by Gepard's Shields get a CRIT DMG buff.
2
A purely defensive set for shielders. The domain that drops it is inefficient to farm, so don't farm it just for this. If you can't put together 4 good pieces, mix 2 pieces of this set with 2 pieces of Messenger Traversing Hackerspace, Sacerdos' Relived Ordeal, Diviner of Distant Reach or Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder.
3
Ranks right behind Self-Enshrouded Recluse and helps Gepard keep himself alive a little better.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
Raises Gepard's Effect RES and adds CRIT DMG for the whole team. It needs at least 30% Effect RES to activate, so pick up some Effect RES substats.
2
Raises Gepard's DEF%, and the DEF bonus doubles once he has at least 50% Effect Hit Rate. Very strong if you build him with Effect Hit Rate for his Freeze.
3
Boosts the whole team's ATK once Gepard reaches 120 SPD, so it suits teams with an ATK-scaling damage dealer. The HP from this set does little for his kit.

Main Stats

  • BodyDEF% or Effect Hit Rate
  • FeetSPD
  • Planar SphereDEF%
  • Link RopeEnergy Regeneration Rate

Substats

  • 1SPD (up to 134)
  • 2DEF%
  • 3Effect RES
  • 4HP%
  • 5Effect Hit Rate

DEF% Body is the default because it makes his Shields thicker. If your Shields are already strong enough and you want his Skill to Freeze enemies more reliably, switch to Effect Hit Rate. An Energy Regeneration Rate Rope lets Gepard cast his Ultimate more often and keep his Shields up.

Get SPD to 134 first, then stack DEF%. Effect RES matters if you use Broken Keel. Effect Hit Rate is only needed if you want to Freeze enemies with his Skill.

Stat Targets

  • DEF2300 or more, 2400 to 2900 is even safer
  • HP3000 or more
  • SPD134 or more is best, otherwise the 121 or 100 breakpoints
  • Energy Regeneration Rate19.44% or more

Skill Priority

Ultimate > everything else

Level his Ultimate first and as early as possible, since that is where his Shields come from. Level his Skill if you want a better chance to Freeze. His Talent rarely triggers when Gepard is built tanky. Basic ATK can wait, since dealing damage isn't his job.

Trace Priority

Integrity > Commander, Fighting Spirit

Unlock Integrity first because it helps Gepard draw attacks away from his allies. Commander fully restores his Energy the moment Unyielding Will triggers, so he can cast his Ultimate in time to save the team. Fighting Spirit increases his ATK by 35% of his current DEF, which only adds a bit of damage. The order of these two is up to you, depending on whether you need the emergency save or a little extra damage.

Eidolon Priority

No Eidolons needed, E1 and E4 help the most

Gepard does his job fine at E0, but as a standard 5-star you will likely pick up more copies over time. E1 raises his Skill's base chance to Freeze by 35%, to 100% in total, and with a bit of Effect Hit Rate the Freeze lands fairly consistently. E4 gives all allies 20% Effect RES, which helps block debuffs. E2 lowers an enemy's SPD by 20% for 1 turn after it is unfrozen, but it needs his Skill, which eats Skill Points your damage dealer wants. E6 makes him take action right away and restore extra HP when his Talent triggers, but with a proper build his Talent rarely triggers.

Best Gepard Teams

Budget Team (All 4-Stars)

Replace Lynx with: Natasha

Gepard brings the Shields and Lynx or Natasha handles the healing, so this team can survive for a very long time. Everyone besides Gepard is a 4-star, and the team is strong enough to carry you through the early and mid game while you save up for other 5-star characters.

Team with Kafka, Black Swan and Hysilens

Gepard covers the defense here: his Ultimate shields the whole team for 3 turns, and Integrity pulls enemy attacks toward him.

Team with Evanescia

Gepard keeps the whole team shielded. Use his Ultimate as soon as he has the Energy so the Shields never drop.

Best Teammates for Gepard

Acheron
Acheron

Gepard's Shields are among the thickest in the game, and Integrity makes enemies aim for him more often. With Trend of the Universal Market, he debuffs the enemy every time he is hit, which gives Acheron more Slashed Dream stacks.

Lynx
Lynx

Gepard can't heal his allies, so pairing him with a healer like Lynx makes the team extremely sturdy. A natural fit for an all 4-star team.

Natasha
Natasha

A 4-star healer who can take Lynx's place in Gepard's budget team.

Dan Heng
Dan Heng

Part of the all 4-star team with Gepard, which is strong enough to carry you through the early and mid game.

Serval
Serval

Also part of the all 4-star team with Gepard, Dan Heng and Lynx.

How to Play Gepard

Ultimate Shields the Whole Team

His Ultimate, Enduring Bulwark, gives every ally a Shield based on Gepard's DEF that lasts 3 turns. It only costs 100 Energy, so cast it as soon as it is ready, and as long as the Shields aren't broken you can keep them up almost nonstop. Its scaling is slightly lower than March 7th's Skill Shield, but it covers the whole team, costs no Skill Points, and Gepard's higher base DEF means it usually still comes out ahead.

Draw Attacks and Get Back Up Once

Thanks to his Trace Integrity, Gepard is much more likely to be attacked than his teammates. When he is struck with a killing blow, his Talent Unyielding Will keeps him standing and restores his HP right away, once per battle. With Commander unlocked, his Energy is also fully restored at that moment, so you can fire off his Ultimate to save the whole team. Keep in mind that Gepard only shields and can't heal his allies, so any real HP they lose stays lost. Don't let fights drag on too long.

Skill Freeze Is a Backup Plan

His Skill, Daunting Smite, has a 65% base chance to Freeze one enemy for 1 turn, and a Frozen enemy can't take action. Normally you should just use Basic ATK and save Skill Points for the team. Only use his Skill when you need to stop an enemy that is about to use a dangerous attack.

Use His Technique Before Battle

After you use his Technique, Comradery, the whole team starts the next battle with a Shield that lasts 2 turns. Make a habit of using it before fights so your team is protected from the very first hit.

Quick Tips

  • Get SPD to 134 first, then stack DEF.
  • Broken Keel needs at least 30% Effect RES, so keep an eye on your substats if you want to use it.
  • Belobog of the Architects needs at least 50% Effect Hit Rate to double its DEF bonus.
  • Gepard fits into almost any team, and with enough DEF% and an Energy Regeneration Rate Rope he can keep the team alive on his own.
  • Don't waste materials on his Basic ATK, save them for his Ultimate.

Gepard FAQ

Is Gepard worth getting?
Yes, if you need another shielder. He is a standard 5-star with no rate-up banner, so the only guaranteed way to get him is to pick him once you reach 300 pulls on the standard banner. He faces more competition from newer sustain units in the harder modes, but he is still a good sustain and clearly better than your free options once he is built.
With so many new sustain units out, does Gepard still have a place?
Yes. A Shield works like a temporary extra layer of HP for your allies, so it can stop hits that would otherwise one-shot them. Besides Gepard, only Fu Xuan and Aventurine can do this, and both are limited 5-stars.
What Light Cone should Gepard use without Moment of Victory?
Journey, Forever Peaceful is the best 4-star option. Landau's Choice and Day One of My New Life are also very solid. If you play him with Acheron, use Trend of the Universal Market.
Which Eidolons should I aim for on Gepard?
He works well at E0. If you get them, E1 brings his Skill's base chance to Freeze up to 100%, and E4 gives the whole team 20% Effect RES.
Can Gepard heal his allies?
No. He only creates Shields, so any real HP your allies lose won't come back. If damage often gets through his Shields, bring a healer like Lynx or Natasha.
