Should You Pull for Aventurine • Waveflair?

Main DPS

Aventurine • Waveflair is a Quantum Elation DPS who puts almost all of his damage into his Elation Skill. Every time a teammate attacks, he builds up Fervor, and at 10 points he fires off a free Elation Skill right away, even outside the Aha Instant. He performs well in all 3 endgame modes, so if you need a main DPS, he is well worth pulling.

He suits you if you have teammates who attack a lot, like Ashveil and Mortenax Blade, or if you already own Yao Guang. The nice part is that he doesn't need other Elation characters at all and still works fine on his own in a Follow-up ATK team.

Memory of Chaos Outstanding His Elation Skill hits all enemies and then adds a string of random bounces, so he handles both waves of mobs and bosses well.
Pure Fiction Outstanding He uses his Elation Skill often enough, and his Skill and Ultimate also hit every enemy, so relying on random bounces doesn't hold him back.
Apocalyptic Shadow Outstanding The All In version adds a lot of extra hits based on his Fervor, and the random bounces also deal extra Toughness DMG, which can help in a pinch.

Best Aventurine • Waveflair Build Guide

Standard Aventurine • Waveflair Build

He barely scales with ATK at all. Stack SPD first, then CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, and you are on the right track.

Best Light Cones

  • 1 Summer Rides the Surf Summer Rides the Surf Best
His signature is packed with stats: 18% CRIT Rate, 24% SPD and 40% Elation, which makes building him a lot easier. It also recovers Skill Points, which fits him well since he always wants to use his Skill. That said, in a team with several damage dealers, the gap over other Light Cones gets smaller.
  • 2 Today's Good Luck Today's Good Luck Great
A 4-star that sits right behind his signature at 5 Superimpositions. The extra CRIT Rate helps him reach the cap more easily.
  • 3 Welcome to the Cosmic City Welcome to the Cosmic City Good
Gives a permanent 18% SPD and lets him ignore 20% DEF. In Follow-up ATK teams this can push you over the cap for DEF ignore and DEF reduction, and when that happens you should swap his 4-piece Relic set.
  • 4 Until the Flowers Bloom Again Until the Flowers Bloom Again Good
Evanescia's signature, and he can use most of its stats. Its effect that makes enemies take more DMG pays off more in teams with several damage dealers.
  • 5 Mushy Shroomy's Adventures Mushy Shroomy's Adventures Easy to get
The 4-star pick if you don't want to spend, at 5 Superimpositions. In Elation teams, several teammates can hold this Light Cone and their effects stack.

Best Relics

1
The best set for most teams. The 2-piece gives extra CRIT DMG, and the 4-piece gives a strong DEF ignore effect that works well with his Follow-up ATK teammates.
2
A usable stand-in against Quantum-weak enemies. Keep in mind that the 2-piece Quantum DMG Boost does not apply to his Elation DMG.
3
A situational set for when your team already has more DEF ignore and DEF reduction than it needs, for example when he holds Welcome to the Cosmic City. It gives SPD, CRIT Rate and Elation, and he wants all three.

Best Planar Ornaments

1
The best choice, and almost everyone who plays him uses it.
2
The second option, still behind Punklorde Stage Zero. To get the most out of it, the team needs a Follow-up ATK teammate.

Main Stats

  • BodyCRIT Rate
  • FeetSPD
  • Planar SphereHP% or DEF%
  • Link RopeEnergy Regeneration Rate

Substats

  • 1SPD
  • 2CRIT Rate
  • 3CRIT DMG

The Planar Sphere can be anything. ATK% or Quantum DMG Boost only adds to his non-Elation damage, which is a very small part of his output, so take HP% or DEF% to make him sturdier, and favor the piece with good substats. The Link Rope is Energy Regeneration Rate so his Ultimate comes back faster, and his Ultimate raises his SPD for 4 turns.

SPD comes first because he gets stronger with SPD: the Party in Perfect Paradise Trace turns SPD into Elation. On top of that, Sift Through Gilded Dreams already gives him 48% CRIT DMG.

Stat Targets

  • SPDAs high as possible, around 160 to 200
  • CRIT Rate100% (in combat)
  • CRIT DMG120% (out of combat)

Skill Priority

Elation Skill > Talent > Ultimate > Skill > Basic ATK

Almost all of his power is in his Elation Skill, so level it first. His Talent sets the extra damage his Skill and Ultimate deal while he holds Certified Banger. The ATK-based damage on his Skill and Ultimate barely matters, so those can wait.

Trace Priority

Revel in Raging Tides > Party in Perfect Paradise > Sift Through Gilded Dreams

Revel in Raging Tides matters most because it decides how he plays: with another Elation character it raises Elation, and as the only Elation character his Elation Skill counts as a Follow-up ATK. Party in Perfect Paradise turns SPD into Elation, and Sift Through Gilded Dreams raises CRIT DMG for the whole team.

Eidolon Priority

E1 and E2 are both big early upgrades

E1 A Holiday on the Line gives 24% All-Type RES PEN and makes him use his Elation Skill automatically at 10, 20 and 30 Fervor, which means up to 2 more uses per Aha Instant. E2 Idle as the Turning Tide raises the Fervor cap to 50 and gives extra Fervor after each Elation Skill. Both only reach their full value when your teammates attack often enough. E4 Sunlight Runs No Tab is surprisingly useful too, letting all allies ignore an extra 18% DEF when he uses his Skill.

Best Aventurine • Waveflair Teams

Best Follow-up ATK Team

Replace Hyacine with: Huohuo

He is the only Elation character here, so his Elation Skill counts as a Follow-up ATK. Ashveil lowers the DEF of all enemies by 40% and raises the CRIT DMG of his Elation Skill, while Mortenax Blade launches Follow-up ATKs and applies DMG amplification debuffs. All three need each other to keep attacking, so Fervor builds up steadily. Besides Hyacine and Huohuo, Luocha, Lingsha and Gallagher also show up in the last slot, or you can put Tribbie or Robin • Summeretto there.

Elation Team with Yao Guang

Replace Trailblazer (Elation) with: Mortenax Blade

With another Elation character on the team, Revel in Raging Tides raises all allies' Elation by 20%, and his own by an extra 80%. Yao Guang is the top Elation support, and her Ultimate summons a real Aha Instant, so he gets to use the All In version. If you don't have the Trailblazer (Elation), Mortenax Blade can take that slot.

Best Teammates for Aventurine • Waveflair

Ashveil
Ashveil

A Sub-DPS who fits him very well: lowers the DEF of all enemies by 40% and launches lots of Follow-up ATKs that feed his Fervor. With only one Elation character on the team, Ashveil also raises the CRIT DMG of his Elation Skill, and in teams with more Elation characters he can still slot in to build Fervor.

Mortenax Blade
Mortenax Blade

Launches Follow-up ATKs and applies powerful DMG amplification debuffs, and can run alongside Ashveil in the same team.

Yao Guang
Yao Guang

The top Elation support, and she turns on his team-wide Elation boost. With her, he can play as the main DPS or as a secondary damage dealer next to another Elation DPS.

Tribbie
Tribbie

A workable replacement for the Sub-DPS slot in Follow-up ATK teams, thanks to her DMG amplification for the whole team.

Trailblazer (Elation)
Trailblazer (Elation)

A second Elation character to turn on his Elation boost. Note that the Trailblazer's Ultimate does not trigger the All In version.

Pearl
Pearl

Works fine with him. He can't use the temporary resources from her Ultimate, but the extra turn it grants still helps him stack Fervor.

Huohuo
Huohuo

A healer who appears in both his Follow-up ATK team and his Elation team.

How to Play Aventurine • Waveflair

The More Your Team Attacks, the Faster Fervor Fills

Every time a teammate attacks, he gains 1 Fervor and 1 Punchline. The Sift Through Gilded Dreams Trace adds 2 more Fervor each time a teammate attacks, up to 6 times, and using his Skill resets that count. His Skill gives 4 Fervor on its own and his Ultimate gives 8. Once Fervor reaches 10, he immediately uses a free "Cheers! To Summer's Blaze" that counts a fixed 20 Punchline.

Save Fervor for the All In Version

After that automatic use, his next Elation Skill inside the Aha Instant is enhanced into "All In! To Summer's Blaze." It deals the same hits as the normal version, then consumes all Fervor and adds 1 extra hit on a random enemy for each point consumed. Fervor caps at 30, so the fuller it is when the Aha Instant starts, the harder it hits. The All In version only works in a real Aha Instant: Yao Guang's Ultimate can summon one, but the Trailblazer (Elation)'s Ultimate cannot.

Solo Elation or With Other Elation Characters

The Revel in Raging Tides Trace checks your team at the start of battle. If there is another Elation character, all allies get 20% Elation and he gets an extra 80%. If he is the only Elation character, his Elation Skill counts as a Follow-up ATK, and every time a teammate attacks he gains 2 more Certified Banger and 1 Punchline, while Aha gains 25 SPD until the end of the Aha Instant. That is what lets him team up with Follow-up ATK characters who are not on the Elation Path.

SPD Is Everything

The Party in Perfect Paradise Trace raises his Elation by 30% once he reaches 140 SPD, and every point of SPD above that adds another 1%, counting up to 200 excess SPD. His Ultimate also raises his own SPD for a full 4 turns and is fairly cheap on Energy, so after the first use you can keep that buff up for most of the fight.

Quick Tips

  • Use his Technique before battle so he starts the fight with 2 Fervor and 20 Certified Banger.
  • Don't spend your Planar Sphere on ATK% or Quantum DMG Boost, since neither adds to his Elation DMG.
  • If your Follow-up ATK team already has more DEF ignore and DEF reduction than it needs, swap the 4-piece Ever-Glorious Magical Girl for Diviner of Distant Reach.
  • Use his Skill regularly to reset the trigger count on Sift Through Gilded Dreams.
  • The All In version needs a real Aha Instant, so Yao Guang is the better partner than the Trailblazer (Elation) for that.

Aventurine • Waveflair FAQ

Is Aventurine • Waveflair worth pulling?
Yes. He is an excellent Elation DPS in Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction and Apocalyptic Shadow, and he fits both Elation teams and Follow-up ATK teams.
Can he work without other Elation characters?
Yes. On his own, his Elation Skill counts as a Follow-up ATK, and pairing him with Ashveil and Mortenax Blade works well.
Does he need ATK?
No. The ATK-based part of his damage barely matters, and his real damage is Elation DMG. Focus on SPD, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.
What Light Cone should he use without his signature?
Today's Good Luck at 5 Superimpositions is a great pick. Welcome to the Cosmic City or Until the Flowers Bloom Again also work, and if you want to save, go with Mushy Shroomy's Adventures.
Which Eidolon should you stop at?
E1 and E2 are both big early upgrades that let him use his Elation Skill more often each rotation. How much they are worth depends on whether your teammates attack often enough to build up Fervor.
